The Countries that make up America

There are many countries that make up the American Continent, and as such are part of America.

They are split between North America, Central America and South America.

Some say there are 23 Countries in North America, and 12 in South America, and have included those in Central America in with the North. Others say there are 16 Countries in North America, 12 in South America and 7 in Central America.

There are many countries that make up the American Continent, and as such, are part of America.

They are split between North America, Central America and South America.

Some say there are 23 Countries in North America, and 12 in South America, and have included those in Central America in with the North.  This is based on “Central America being the southernmost part of North America on the Isthmus of Panama“.

Others say there are 16 Countries in North America, 12 in South America and 7 in Central America.  This still leaves the Caribbean islands in North America in the normal definition.

These countries are:

  • Antigua and Barbuda, with it’s capital being St. John’s. Part of North America
  • Argentina, with it’s capital being Buenos Aires. Part of South America
  • Bahamas, with it’s capital being Nassau. Part of North America
  • Barbados, with it’s capital being Bridgetown. Part of North America
  • Belize, with it’s capital being Belmopan. Part of Central or North America
  • Bolivia, with it’s capital being Sucre. Part of South America
  • Brazil, with it’s capital being Brasilia. Part of South America
  • Canada, with it’s capital being Ottawa. Part of North America
  • Chile, with it’s capital being Santiago. Part of South America
  • Colombia, with it’s capital being Bogota. Part of South America
  • Costa Rica, with it’s capital being San José. Part of Central or North America
  • Cuba, with it’s capital being Havana. Part of North America
  • Dominica, with it’s capital being Roseau. Part of North America
  • Dominican Republic, with it’s capital being Santo Domingo. Part of North America
  • Ecuador, with it’s capital being Quito. Part of South America
  • El Salvador, with it’s capital being San Salvador. Part of Central or North America
  • Grenada, with it’s capital being St. George’s. Part of North America
  • Guatemala, with it’s capital being Guatemala City. Part of Central or North America
  • Guyana, with it’s capital being Georgetown. Part of South America
  • Haiti, with it’s capital being Port-au-Prince. Part of North America
  • Honduras, with it’s capital being Tegucigalpa. Part of Central or North America
  • Jamaica, with it’s capital being Kingston. Part of North America
  • Mexico, with it’s capital being Mexico City. Part of North America
  • Nicaragua, with it’s capital being Managua. Part of Central or North America
