The Armistice between the Allies and Germany came into effect at 11 a.m. Paris time, on 11 November 1918, (the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month), ending more than four years of the deadliest war in history at the time. The war that began on 28 July 1914.
World War One cost the lives of almost 17 million people worldwide. Almost 9 million civilians (many through disease and malnutrition) and 8 million military personnel, lost their lives. Almost 2 out of every 100 people in the world.
