COVID-19 Death Rate per country

The COVID-19 fatality rate is about 6.9% of all recorded cases have so far resulted in death, when looking at the worldwide figures of:
3,064,814 Coronavirus Cases
211,603 Deaths

However this rate various enormously by country, with rates as high as 23.08% in Nicaragua, and as low as 0.09% in Qatar.

Looking at some of the Major countries we can still see a lot of variation:

• 15.44% Belgium
• 14.05% France
• 13.53% Italy
• 13.42% UK
• 6.90% World Total
• 6.57% Philippines
• 5.71% Switzerland
• 5.62% USA
• 1.29% New Zealand
• 1.24% Australia

One of the main reasons for variation is the ability to record actual cases correctly.

Some countries test more people, while others only test those that they think have the virus.

That can cause a massive difference.

An example shows this:

Country 1:

• Population of 10 million with 1,000 Covid-19 Deaths.
• They test 50,000 people, and find 10,000 are positive and 1,000 die.  This is a fatality rate of 10% of all positive cases.

Country 2:

• Population of 10 million with 1,000 Covid-19 Deaths.
• They test 100,000 people, and find 20,000 are positive and 1,000 die.  This is a fatality rate of 5% of all positive cases.

The only difference is the number of tests carried out, and therefore the number of positive cases found.

The number of deaths stays the same,  at .0001% of the population.

If they only tested 10,000, they might only find 2,000 positive,  but still have 1,000 deaths.  That would be a 50% fatality rate.

Each of the above 3 theoretical situations are based on 20%, of those tested, being found positive for the virus.

Take it to the extreme, and if you only test those that die,  you get a 100% fatality rate…
