Scotland and Independence from…

A statement by Kate Forbes in November 2020 was: I couldn’t understand why we were content to put up with decisions taken by governments we didn’t elect. www.snp.org/kate-forbes-snp20-conference.

But that was talking about the UK government where her party, the SNP, received support from 31% of the Scottish Electorate.

This result, even though 69% didn’t vote for them, was used to confirm the Scottish view that they should stay under European Union rules, but gain independence from the United Kingdom rules.

At 1 December 2019: The total number of UK Parliament electors in Scotland was 3,988,600.

From that number, 1,242,380 voted for the SNP in the 2019 General Election.

31.1% of the Scottish electorate voted SNP in 2019. The rest voted for a different party or chose not to vote.

The SNP’s leader Nicola Sturgeon described the result as a clear mandate to hold a new referendum for Scottish independence.
