Exactly why is Donald Trump being Impeached?
The following two comments are quoted as the main reasons for Donald Trump being charged (impeached).
“The president incited sedition, incited violence and so it’s important for democracy with the rule of law to hold him accountable.”
“Should he be convicted in the Senate, the idea would be to bar him from holding office again.” This would stop Trump from seeking re-election in 2024.
Democrats in Congress, led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, are now using the following two statements as an opening to initiate a second impeachment trial against the US president.
- You don’t concede when there’s theft involved,” Trump told the crowd. “Our country has had enough. We will not take it anymore.”
- Trump then told the crowd to march to the Capitol to give Republican representatives “the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country.”
Following Trump’s speech, a few of his 74.2 million supporters stormed the Capitol building in Washington, on the day Congress was meeting to confirm Joe Biden’s election victory.
Some arrived ‘armed’ after Trump’s speech, which lasted for more than an hour. This speech aired his grievances against the election, the media and the Democrats.
The speech, which preceded the violence in the US Capitol on 6 January, has become a central piece of evidence in support and defence of the charge of incitement.
The speech included these statements:
We’re going walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators, and congressmen and women.
We have come to demand that Congress do the right thing and only count the electors who have been lawfully slated, lawfully slated. I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.
Some ignored his request for “peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”
His 11,000 word speech ended with:
“So we’re going to, we’re going to walk down Pennsylvania Avenue, I love Pennsylvania Avenue, and we’re going to the Capitol and we’re going to try and give… The Democrats are hopeless. They’re never voting for anything, not even one vote. But we’re going to try and give our Republicans, the weak ones, because the strong ones don’t need any of our help, we’re going to try and give them the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country.
So let’s walk down Pennsylvania Avenue. I want to thank you all. God bless you and God bless America. Thank you all for being here, this is incredible. Thank you very much. Thank you.”

Have his opponents chosen the correct options to try to stop him running for President again in 2024?
How much is the Media at fault?
One media report stated: “Trump then told the crowd to march to the Capitol to give Republican representatives the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country.”
That media report did not mention his request for it to be “peaceful and patriotic“.
Trump is far from perfect, but asking for a ‘peaceful march’ is not exactly ‘inciting violence’ in many people’s minds. I am also unsure how the legal experts would handle that, as being the evidence to work with.
