Ajax Amsterdam -v- Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the UEFA Europa League.
The Ajax Amsterdam v Maccabi Tel-Aviv match, in the UEFA Europa League, has been overshadowed by violence involving Palestinians attacking Jewish supporters at the match.
The match result was Amsterdam’s Ajax team, winning the match with a score of 5-0.
The other result was Violence outside the Match.
Before the match, the Mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, had feared that clashes would break out between anti-israeli protesters and supporters of the Israeli team. With this in mind, the Mayor had placed a ban on pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
Unfortunately, some pro-Palestinian actions did occur, and violence followed.
The Mayor of Amsterdam described the protesters as “anti-Semitic hit-and-run squads“.
According to a report on the abc.net.au, one pro-Palestinian group, that used it’s Telegram channel to organise protests against the match, warned attendees to prepare for “grave violence“.
One news report highlighted a Palestinian supporter attacking Israeli fans, with shouts including “this is for the children-this is Gaza” and “now you know how it feels“.
It seems that some of the attackers may not be aware that it was Palestinians that started this Palestinian-Israeli war, when Palestinians targetted Israeli women and children on 7 October 2023.
On 7 October 2023, Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups, started this current war between the Palestinians and Israel, when they invaded Israel and killed approximately 1,200 people of various nationalities in Israel, of whom at least 809 were civilians, including women, children and older persons. Another 252 people were abducted and taken to Gaza as hostages. Some of these have been executed, before they could be rescued. Almost 100 still remain in captivity.
