The online retailer Amazon has purchased the British online book seller “The Book Depository” in a recent major move.
Information from the Bookdepository suggest that: “The Book Depository will continue to operate independently”
Hopefully that will include retaining the free shipping that is offered worldwide.
With 75% of the companies sales being to overseas destinations, any change to that could cause a massive change in turnover, which is currently in the region of about £120 million.
The Office of Fair Trading has said that it is too early to make a decision on whether the takeover would trigger an investigation.
Andrew Crawford the founder of The Book Depository, has been quoted as saying: “With the support of Amazon, we look forward to continuing our growth and providing an ever-improving service for readers globally.”
