British Empire versus Roman Empire..

Some say that the Roman Empire was as large as the British Empire, and in some respects they may be very close, especially when considering population as a percentage of the world populations at the times

• • The British Empire at its Peak had about 23% of the world’s population
  • The Roman Empire at its Peak had about 21% of the world’s population

However, when comparing the size of these Empires, by land mass, the British Empire was much bigger.  About 6 or 7 times the size.

• • The British Empire at its Peak was about 35,500,000 km2 (13,700,000 sq mi)
  • The Roman Empire at its Peak was about 5,000,000 km2
