It is almost Earth Hour again, for the 4th year.
8:30pm Saturday 26 March 2011
The first Earth Hour was in 2007 when the WWFAustralia, in partnership with Leo Burnett and Fairfax Media, began this, to be, annual event, in Sydney.
In 2007 over 2 million people and over 2,000 businesses in Sydney, Australia switched off their lights in a show of solidarity about the need to do something about curbing the increasing power usage.
In 2008, it is said that over 50 million people around the world did the same as Sydney, and showed the world the importance of this event.
In 2009, 88 countries participated in this Earth hour event.
2010 involved 128 countries, including 89 national capitals and 9 of the world’s 10 most populated cities.
Many of the worlds major landmarks also turned off their lights for this event, including:
- The Eiffel Tower in Paris
- The Las Vegas Strip
- Buckingham Palace
- Big Ben
- The Coliseum in Rome
- Empire State Building
Earth Hour 2011 will be held on Saturday March 26 between 8.30PM and 9.30PM in your local time zone.
