How Many COVID-19 Deaths in the UK?

How Many of the Deaths in the UK are COVID-19 related?

UK Deaths in 2021.

In the first THREE WEEKS of 2021 there were 54,469 registered deaths in England and Wales. That is an average of 18,156 per week.

In the first three weeks of 2020 (before COVID) the numbers were 39,302 registered deaths in England and Wales, an average of 13,101 per week.

In the previous four years, the average deaths for those three weeks were 39,213, an average of 13,071 per week.

This shows the 2021 year so far, having an extra 5,000 deaths per week, that might be related to the new COVID variants.

These numbers are much higher than the averages for the last 6 months of 2020.

UK Deaths in 2020.

In the last six months of 2020 (during COVID) there were 278,508 deaths in England and Wales. That is an average of 10,315 per week over 27 weeks (3 July 2020 to 1 July 2021).

In the last six months of 2019 (before COVID) there were 257,528 deaths in England and Wales. That is an average of 9,538 per week over 27 weeks.

That is an increase of 777 deaths per week, after COVID deaths began to appear.

During that time there were 31,223 deaths where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, an average of 1,156 per week.

The above figures are sourced from “England and Wales 2010-2021: www.ons.gov.uk”

They show almost 800 more deaths per week, compared to the previous years non-Covid deaths, but about 1,150 of the weekly deaths mentioned COVID-19 on the death certificate.

Some of those, with COVID-19 mentioned on the death certificate, were already severely ill, and may have died from other causes, even without the COVID complication.

However, it does seem that in the last 6 months of 2020, COVID would have been responsible for around 800 per week.

But then we look at 2021, and the possible complication caused by the “UK variant” termed virus.

No specific details of the numbers that have COVID-19 mentioned on the death certificate, yet, but the total numbers of deaths indicate this will be high.
