On the earlier post “How to Recover Deleted Photos from SD Card” I looked into recovering accidentally deleted photos from a camera SD card. Unfortunately the answer to that post only covered photographs, it did not manage to recover any of the video files, which were in AVI format.
So now I am looking onto that option.
There are recovery programs about that will do this, and most of them have a free trial. We did use one of these, which was able to confirm that the video is still available to be recovered, but to do the actual recovery, we need to buy the full version.
For what we need for ourselves, at the moment, the cost is not worth it, but I can imagine situations where it would be. (eg: A Wedding Video).
Pandora Recovery is one program that we looked at, and an example of the file types that it can recover are:
– *.avi, *.mpg, *.mov for video
– *.bmp, *.jpg, *.png, *.gif for images
However, a quick test of this one, and the jpg files were found, but the movie file wasn’t.
My test process was to use a 256mb SD card, I took some photos and two small videos. All the photos were found, but not the videos.
