The attitude of the Taiwanese people towards Independence or Unification with China has changed over the 22 years since the turn of the century.
19.4% wanted Unification with China in 2000, reducing to
7.2% wanting Unification with China in 2022.
16.3% wanted Total Independence in 2000, increasing to
30.0% wanting Total Independence in 2022.
Unification with China..
In 2000, 19.4% wanted Unification as soon as possible (2%), or to maintain the Status Quo but move towards Unification (17.4%).
By 2022, this became 7.2% wanting Unification as soon as possible (1.2%), or to maintain the Status Quo but move towards Unification (6.0%).
Total Independence..
In 2000, 16.3% wanted Independence as soon as possible (4.7%), or to maintain the Status Quo but move towards Independence (11.6%).
By 2022, this became 30.0% wanting Independence as soon as possible (4.6%), or to maintain the Status Quo but move towards Independence (25.4%).
No Change, stay the way it is..
In 2000, 47.8% wanted to maintain the Status Quo indefinitely (19.3%) or think about it later (28.5%)
By 2022, 57.2% wanted to maintain the Status Quo indefinitely (28.5%) or think about it later (28.7%).
