I will give it a try on another quiet website.
Not perfectly straightforward… Not as easy as install and run like many plugins:
You need to create a new facebook API Applitation to setup facebook login. Please follow the instructions to create new app.
- Go to https://developers.facebook.com/apps.
- Click on ‘Add a New App’ button. A popup will open. Then choose website.
- Add the required informations and don’t forget to make your app live. This is very important otherwise your app will not work for all users.
- Then Click the “Create App” button and follow the instructions, your new app will be created.
- Copy and Paste “App ID” and “App Secret” here.
A few little set up problems, based on not knowing exactly what to do, and ending up in the Facebook Developers area!!
This is my series of events while setting it up:
Creating the ID needed
I saw this when I opened my webpage when not logged in
But it then went to the comment form which all looked OK:
But it wasn’t…
This was my set up
Everything seems right
And OK on this page too
I added my website at the bottom. I didn’t realise that at first, as I had already put in my website name earlier
Then I logged out and tried to add a comment on my site as a non registered reader
Not a good result…..
Do I disable it or keep trying?
The Plugin author was very quick with a reply to help, as shown here:
To make the Facebook app live.
Please go to https://developers.facebook.com/apps
and select the app that you have created for facebook login
Now click on the ‘settings’ located on the left side menu.
There please add your contact email and please save changes.
Now go the ‘status and reviews’ menu there you will see
Do you want to make this app and all its live features available to the general public?
and please make the app live.
It worked 🙂
Spoke too soon….. Users, after logging in at the comment section by pressing the Facebook option, ended up back at the site home page, and not at the page they were commenting on. The plugin defaults to the home page after login.
Go to the Login redirect link, in the other settings section of “AccessPress Social Login Lite”, and select “Current page“. It does say “If plugin can’t detect what is the redirect uri for the page it will be redirected to home page.” and that is exactly what happens.
User Avatar option
Under the User Avatar option you can also select the Users Facebook profile photo as their image for your website.
Available Icon Themes option
Under the Available icon themes option, I selected Theme 4
instead of the default
Theme 1 so that it has the words to explain to readers.
